Wudankeng Coal Mine 's Storage Yard
The coal storage yard was commonly known as "Tancheng" in Mandarin. It was set up near both the mine and the station. By the mine, the yard held coal waiting to be transported by handcart. By the station, the yard held coal ready to be loaded onto trains. Wudankeng Coal Mine's owner Ushiroku Shintaro built a special yard at the station. The size was about 2,000 Taiwanese ping, which is equal to 6,600 square meters. It could hold up to 5,000 tons of coal. The yard had a dedicated track for freight trains to load coal. Next to the storage yard was an office to register and measure the coal's weight and amount. The handcart track was about 2 to 3 stories higher than the ground-level railway. Handcarts loaded with coal would be pushed into a tipper, dumping the coal into storage bins. When trains arrived, the bins would open to unload the coal.
